安東燉雞 「안동찜닭」(Andong jjimdak)


這次來韓國就是一趟吃雞肉之旅。炸雞一隻雞,現在要來吃安東燉雞。??

This Korea trip is basically a chicken tour. Fried chicken, whole chicken, now it is time to try Andong jjimdak. ??

▲因為我們住在明洞,所以直接從住的地方走過去,沒有研究哪個捷運出口過去比較近。其實明洞很多「安東燉雞」,但最有名的是這家,黑底白字的招牌?

Since we live at Myeong-dong, so we can walk directly here from our hotel, therefore I did not research which subway station exit is the closet. Actually, Myeong-dong, has many Andong jjimdak, but the most famous one is this one, the sign has a black background with white word?

我們兩個人吃,點無骨燉雞肉 (中) 30000韓元。在來之前就聽說安東燉雞很辣,嚇得我們直接跟店員說不要辣。

The two of us, we ordered the boneless jjimdak (medium) for 30000 won. Before coming here, we heard that Andong jjimdak is very spicy, so we ask the waitress for not spicy.

▲點完餐後店員會送上一小碟泡菜和一碗冰蘿蔔湯。冰蘿蔔湯可以解辣。這個泡菜很好吃,我們吃完一盤後又請店員再上一盤。

After ordering, the waitress served a small dish of kimchi and a bowl of radish soup. The radish soup is for getting rid of spiciness. This kimchi is quite tasty, we asked for another dish after finishing this.

Here is the boneless jjimdak! Quite a large dish! I put my hand in the picture for reference, it is almost 4 times the size of my palm.

▲燉雞內含雞腿肉、馬鈴薯、河粉、高麗菜、和蔥。其實份量很足夠,但如果食量很大,吃不飽的話可以再加點白飯喔。

The jjimdak has chicken leg meat, potato, winter noodle, cabbage, scallion. The portion was enough for us, but if you have a large appetite, you can order rice to go along with it.

表面顏色看起來很鹹的安東燉雞,吃起來其實不會很重口味。雞肉燉的很入味,而且雞腿肉的肉質很嫩。 「安東燉雞」內其他配料也很入味,像馬鈴薯吸收了醬汁,吃起來像紅燒料理,鹹鹹甜甜的。高麗菜吃起來清脆爽口, 不過再多一點就更好了.

The jjimdak looks salty, but actually does not taste heavy. The chicken is very flavorful, and the chicken leg meat tender. Other ingredients of the Andong jjimdak is flavorful as well, the potato absorbed the sauce and tasted salty and sweet. The cabbage is refreshing, but I wish they would put more cabbage into the dish.

I love the winter noodle in the Andong jjimdak, the noodle absorbed the sauce and is tender and chewy.

心得:

「安東燉雞」吃起來很像紅燒料理,甜甜鹹鹹的,但吃到後面反而有點膩。雞肉肉質軟嫩和冬粉本身Q彈有勁的口感我很喜歡!下次有機會我想挑戰看看有點辣味的安東燉雞. 難說加辣後,反而不會覺得膩。

Verdict:

Andong jjimdak taste like a braised dish, being both sweet and salty. After eating it for a while, it does become a bit too heavy. The chicken and winter noodle is tender and I love the texture. Next time I would like to challenge myself to Andong jjimdak that is more spicy. Perhaps if its more spicy, I wouldn’t get tired of the taste that quickly.

韓國烤肉是來韓國必吃的美食之一。之前在美國我就很愛吃韓國烤肉,想說來吃吃看真正韓國的烤肉和在美國吃的韓國烤肉有什麼不一樣。

今晚選擇來吃韓國主持人姜虎東開的烤肉店。姜虎東開設的店家有「678육칠팔烤肉」和「姜虎東白丁烤肉(屠夫烤肉) (강호동백정)」。網路上的網友介紹說「678육칠팔烤肉」走高價位以高檔韓牛為主。而我們今天來到的「姜虎東白丁烤肉(屠夫烤肉) (강호동백정)」則屬於比較平價親民。

Korean BBQ is something you must have when you come to Korea. Korean BBQ is already one of my favorites while I was in America. Here I can try to see the difference between authentic Korean BBQ vs Korean BBQ in the states.

Tonight, we choose to eat at a Korean BBQ store opened by Korean show host ‘Kang Ho Dong’. Kang Ho Dong has two restaurants, 678 and Baek Jeong. From the internet, we found out that 678 is very pricey due to the high-quality of the meat. The Baek Jeong we came to today is slightly easier on your wallet.

‘Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong’ is located on the subway 4th line 424 Mingdong Station 8th exit. Exit straight and take a left at the first intersection, and then turn right into the alley at the 3rd intersection, you can see the restaurant on your left side. They have Chinese billboards and a life-size ‘Kang Ho Dong’ sign, you shouldn’t miss it.

從左往右:

和風醬: 裡面有洋蔥,吃起來酸甜酸甜的很清爽,而且沒有洋蔥的辣味。

麻油加鹽: 這是我最喜歡的沾料。特別是配牛肉

甜豆瓣醬: 我喜歡豬肉沾這個

生蔥絲: 攪拌均勻後可以搭配肉一起吃

生菜: 這裡的生菜有扮有醬汁吃起來酸酸甜甜的,跟美國沒有醬汁的生菜比起來,很特別。但是生菜有點太小了,不太好包肉。

From left to right:

Japanese-style sauce: There are onions in it, tasted sour, sweet and quite refreshing without the spiciness of onions.

Sesame oil and salt: This was my favorite dipping sauce, especially with beef.

Sweet Bean Paste: I love this with pork

Raw shredded onions: After stirring, you can eat it with meat

Lettuce: The lettuce has sauce on it which makes it taste sour and sweet. Very special compared to korean bbq restaurants in states that doesn’t have any sauce. However, the lettuce is kind of small and not that easy to pack meats in it.

▲這樣的便當是韓國的傳統食物,吃之前要蓋上盒子,拿起來用力的搖,搖完之後就像讓食材均勻混合。這樣的搖晃,讓簡單的食材變得超級美味。
The bento is traditional Korean food, you should close the box and shake it as hard as you can to mix the ingredients well. The shaking cause the simple ingredients to come together to form an amazing meal.

▲離肉很近的罩子其實是抽油煙機,這麼近的去抽油煙味,吃完身上完全沒有烤肉味!開心?不然我很怕頭髮吸油味。
The cover is a vent hood that fans out the air closely, we did not have BBQ smell on us even after finishing the meal. I am so happy since I hate when my hair has BBQ smell in it.

照片上看起來厚厚肥肉的豬肉,烤完之後完全吃不出肥肉的油膩感。簡單的鹽調味,原味的肉吃得出肉質的新鮮。搭配沾料和配菜來吃,更加好吃刷嘴。
You can see the thick and fat pork meat in the picture, after cooking it, we did not taste the fat’s oily taste in it. You can taste the freshness of the meat by only adding salt to it. If you add dipping sauce and side dishes to it, its even more delicious.

Chuck Flap Tail is the most expensive meat in the restaurant, but you can see why just by looking at it. I couldn’t wait to give it a try while it is sizzling on the grill.

Compared to pork, the beef seems to be of more quality and tastier, almost feel like ordering anothert plate.

心得

在姜虎東吃,店員會來幫忙烤,但在美國的不會(因為美國人工比較貴嗎??)。店員會先烤豬肉再烤牛肉,烤豬肉和牛肉的網也不一樣。感覺在韓國吃韓國烤肉比較講究。抽油煙機離肉很近,油煙味完全被抽掉,吃完不會全身臭臭的好開心!肉本身來說,吃起來的感覺也不一樣,韓國吃的肉質比起美國吃的要更優質。沾料的部份我覺得差不多。

Verdict

Eating at Kang Ho Dong, the waitress will come and help you grill. This doesn’t happen in the states (maybe its more expensive to have employees do that in the states? ?) The waitress will grill pork then beef. The net for grilling pork and beef is also different. I feel like eating korean BBQ at Korea seems to be more exquisite. The fact that we don’t stink of BBQ due to the close vent hood is a big plus. The meat is also very delicious compared to the meat in the states. As for dipping sauce, its about the same.

第一晚飛機降落韓國的時候已經是晚上七點多了,輾轉到達飯店已經是十點多的事了。check-in完的我們決定去吃韓國炸雞當宵夜。

在韓國到處都可以找到炸雞店,而其中最知名的兩大連鎖店是「橋村」和「TwoTwo」。今晚我們決定去離飯店比較近的「TwoTwo」。

When we landed in Korea, it was already 7pm. When we finally got to our hotel, it was already past 10pm. After our check-in, we decided to get some Korean Fried Chicken as late-night snack.

You can find fried chicken stores everywhere in Korea. The more famous ones are called ‘KyoChon’ and ‘TwoTwo’. We decided for ‘TwoTwo’ as it is closer to our hotel.

This ‘TwoTwo’ at Myeong-dong is open until 3am. It is located near the 3rd exit of the 4th lane 424 Myeong-dong subway station. From the exit, follow the road next to 7-11 and you can see the store on your left-hand side.

▲來吃炸雞不免俗的來杯啤酒體驗一下韓國的宵夜生活。我其實不是愛喝啤酒的人,但這款啤酒很清爽,入口滑順我很喜歡。
You must have beer to go along with Fried Chicken in Korea. It is part of their culture. Even though I don’t like beer in general, but this brand is quite refreshing.

Raddish, quite crunchy, I had some after eating the fried chicken, kind of get rid of the oily feeling you get after eating the fried chicken.

其實炸雞都是一模一樣的,只是調味炸雞會另外淋上一個醬汁。醬汁吃起來很像我在美國的中國餐廳會吃到的orange chicken味。酸酸甜甜微微辣的口感。我跟朋友都沒有很喜歡調味炸雞,因為醬吃到後面很膩。

炸雞旁邊有高麗菜絲,上面搭配有番茄醬和美乃滋。非常的普通。

The fried chicken is all the same. The only difference is that half of the chicken has sweet and spicy sauce on it. It kind of taste like the orange chicken you would see at a US Chinese restaurant. It has a sour, sweet, and slightly spicy taste.
To be honest, we didn’t like the sweet and spicy sauce as it got heavy quickly.

There are some shredded cabbage on the side of fried chicken, there is ketchup and mayonnaise on top. Nothing special.

心得:第一次吃到真正的韓國炸雞,其實有點小失望,肉質比我想像中的硬,咬到後面嘴巴很酸,調味炸雞的醬汁我也不愛。下次會想試試看另一家連鎖店「橋村」。不過終於體驗到韓國當地的炸雞配啤酒還是讓旅行有了美好的開始。

Final verdict: My first real Korean Fried Chicken. To be honest, I am slightly disappointed. The meat is a bit too hard which made my mouth tired after chewing for a while. I also did not like the sauce. I would like to try the other chain store ‘KyoChon’ if I have the chance.
However, I finally got to try the traditional Korean Fried Chicken with beer which is a good start for my vacation.
