Without advertisements or a clear sign, this restaurant purely spreads through the word of mouths.
Whenever it is time for a meal, the place is completely packed!
Today, I came with one of my Aunt who works around here to get a real treat.

How this place work: Each person pays 350NT cash only.
**The main selling points are All-you-can-eat taro congee and taro rice noodle soup, as well as it’s no menu dishes.

As you can see, Auntie Hsieh’s Restaurant isn’t too eye-catching from the outside.

You enter by going down this flight of stairs. (If I wasn’t here with my aunt, I am not sure if I would be brave enough to enter alone)

The inside of the restaurant is a bit dark. Once the waitress has seated us, we went to get taro congee and taro rice noodle soup.

These 2 pots hold the restaurant’s main selling points: taro rice noodle soup and taro congee

Be sure to scoop near the bottom for more ingredients~ The ingredients of these two pots are about the same.
They include bits of taro, bean curd, scallion, crispy red onion. You will also find white pepper powder on the side for you to add to your taste.

The 4 main dishes and one side dish is for the 3 of us. These includes:
1. Boiled Chicken + Shrimp – The chicken meat was delicious and flavorful. I didn’t eat the shrimp, but my mom said it was fresh.
2. Stir-fry Water Spinach and Stir-fry Cabbage: Your usually traditional Taiwanese home-style stir-fry. The veggies were stir-fried perfectly. The cabbage and water spinach was still crispy. Overall, the saltiness is perfect too.
3. Steamed Bass: This dish came last since they steamed it on the spot. The fish was tender, sweet and seasoned on the light side.

I really love their taro rice noodle soup.
They used crispy red onions to increase the flavor of the rice noodle soup base.
You will find large pieces of taro and bean curds inside the soup.

img_1885

They provide the choice of coffee, lemon juice, and black tea for an after meal drink.
We all chose to have the lemon juice. It tasted similar to ones I make at home, simple and natural.

Verdict:

Most people who come to Auntie Hsieh’s restaurant are those from the older generations. My aunt told me the food of this restaurant reminds them of the old Taiwanese flavor. This restaurant is spread only through the word of mouth, yet it is completely packed whenever meal time comes. Good thing we made a reservation in advance so we were seated promptly.

How this place work: Each person pays 350NT cash only.  The main selling points are All-you-can-eat taro congee and taro rice noodle soup, as well as it’s no menu dishes.
No menu dishes is served based on the number of people. 2 people – 3 dishes, 3 people – 4 dishes, 5 people – 6 dishes, 6 people – 6 extra large dishes.

The no menu dishes today includes Boiled Chicken + Shrimp, Stir-fry Water Spinach and Stir-fry Cabbage, and steamed bass. Each dish was delicious. The chicken meat was delicious and flavorful.
The Stir-fry Water Spinach and Stir-fry Cabbage taste like your traditional Taiwanese home-style stir-fry. The veggies were stir-fried perfectly. The cabbage and water spinach was still crispy. Overall, the saltiness is perfect too. Steamed Bass’ was tender, sweet and seasoned on the light side.

I really love their taro rice noodle soup. They used crispy red onions to increase the flavor of the rice noodle soup base.
You will find large pieces of taro and bean curds inside the soup.

Auntie Hsieh really is a gem among the elder generation
